Inspired

Inspired by India’s rich and spicy masala chai – the daily ritual of millions – budd is a simple and delicious blend of tea, herbs and spices, easy to prepare and bursting with health benefits.

We start with a base of the finest loose-leaf ceylon tea, full of antioxidants and believed to have anti-viral properties too. This premium high-grown black tea is picked by hand and has an aroma and flavour that’s second to none.

The secret to a great chai (as any chaiwala will tell you) is in the spice mix. Fresh, whole spices in the Indian tradition, blended to perfection for a rich, flavourful and aromatic cup that tastes as good as it is for you – the budd blend is perfection.

Essential Ingredients

Essential Ingredients

Fragrant cinnamon has wonderful digestive and anti-inflammatory properties and can help control blood-sugar levels and lower cholesterol.

Stunning star anise with its soft liquorice-like flavour is rich in antioxidants and vitamins A & C, it’s also known to reduce nausea and improve digestion.

Found in virtually every traditional Tibetan medicine, delicious cardamom aids digestion, supports the immune system, improves circulation and assists the body to detox.

Cloves, with their characteristically warm, sweet flavour, are the unopened buds of the evergreen clove tree. They have been used for centuries for pain relief and as an anti-inflammatory.

Ginger, a powerful, delicious and versatile spice, has a long history rich in both medicinal and culinary uses.

Black pepper – one of the most common seasonings in the world – has a long ayurvedic tradition and a host of health benefits that include increasing nutrient absorption and aiding digestion.

Sticky chai is so-named for the addition of honey – in our case, pure Australian native honey that lightly coats the tea leaf and spice blend and infuses the mixture with its gorgeous robust sweetness. A natural preservative, honey has been used in ayurvedic medicine for at least 4000 years, contains antioxidants and flavonoids, is anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and has been shown to relieve a range of common ailments.

How to Brew

  1. Add 15g of budd (three teaspoons) per person to your tea pot, plunger or ibrik
  2. Heat (but don't boil) 150ml of dairy, soy or rice milk per person on the stovetop or in the microwave, then pour over the chai. Steep for two minutes then strain, serve and enjoy

    { budd is also delicious brewed with hot water instead of milk – give it a try! }

    { if making more than one cup, be sure to strain the whole brew to prevent the tea from overbrewing }

Although we think budd is delicious just the way it is, feel free to add extra cinnamon or honey to serve. For an extra-strong cup, steep budd in a small amount of hot water before adding your milk

In the café:
Add 15g of budd and 150ml of milk to your favourite milk jug and steam – it’s that simple. We recommend serving budd immediately, with a sprinkle of freshly ground cinnamon.

Who We Are

Chai lovers & perfectionists. Based in Melbourne, Australia’s coffee capital, we wanted the best sticky chai possible and we weren’t satisfied with the local café’s offering – so we made our own.

Using the highest quality ceylon tea, fresh, whole spices and local Australian honey, we brewed a million cups in pursuit of the perfect one, refining the recipe to make it as simple and delicious as possible, balancing spice and sweetness and strength until we found the golden ratio: the blend that made everybody sigh and say, “hello, budd.”

We created budd because we wanted to drink it, now we’re proud to drink it every day.
